Position Size Calculator

Never risk more than you planned.

🧮

Enter account size, entry price, and stop loss to calculate your ideal position size.

How to Use This Calculator

  1. 1
Set your account size — Enter the total capital in your trading account (not just the margin used).
  2. 2
Choose your risk % — Most professional traders risk 0.5%–2% per trade. Start at 1%.
  3. 3
Enter entry price and stop loss — The calculator derives the points at risk from the gap between them.
  4. 4
Read the lot count — For F&O the result shows exact lots (using NSE official lot sizes for NIFTY, BANKNIFTY, FINNIFTY, MIDCPNIFTY).
Common mistake: Traders size positions based on margin required, not risk amount. A 1-lot BANKNIFTY trade only costs ₹12,000 margin — but at a 100-point stop, you're risking ₹1,500 per lot. Always size on risk, not margin.

Frequently Asked Questions

What lot sizes does this use for NIFTY and BANKNIFTY?

The calculator uses current NSE official lot sizes: NIFTY 65, BANKNIFTY 15, FINNIFTY 40, MIDCPNIFTY 75. These are updated after NSE revisions.

How is position size calculated?

Risk Amount ÷ Points At Risk = Raw quantity. For F&O this is then rounded down to the nearest whole lot. Formula: Lots = floor((Account × Risk%) ÷ (|Entry − SL| × Lot Size))

Does this work for US stocks and crypto?

Yes. Switch to "US Stocks" or "Crypto" in the asset class selector. Account size converts automatically between INR and USD at a fixed rate of ₹85/$1.

Is this free?
